My best friend of over 20 YEARS just had a baby and I didn't go to the hospital to meet her. It wasn't personal, just as in the case of a NF, she just didn't want anyone besides her immediate family there in the initial days.

Nannies seem to want it both ways. If they aren't invited to births, charge's parties, etc they aren't treated enough like "on of the family" and are insulted, yet they demand to be regarded as professionals when it comes to benefits and bonuses. What an entitled bunch.

I've had both experiences.

I was with one nanny family for 8 years full time. I started with them when the older 2 were 4 months and 2 years old and baby was born about a year later. I brought my two charges to the hospital to meet their new brother. Took lots of pictures and was included in many of the pictures.

I started a new job when the mom was pregnant with their 3rd. When the baby was born about 3 months after starting I was not invited to the hospital or included in any of the visits with the baby. Mom had a c/section and some complications so was in the hospital over a week. I met the baby when she was 10 days old (she came home at 8 days but I didn't meet her until the following Monday). This job was an overall bad fit for me, so this wasn't a huge surpise that I wasn't included.

Yes! I had my charge dressed so cute and he and I brought balloons to the hospital. Of course I wanted to see my newest charge as soon as possible!

I don't work with under 6 months, so nope.

Yes! I took big sister to the hospital to meet baby brother and was the first person (aside from mom and dad) to ever hold the baby. He's almost 5 now and they no longer need a nanny, but I'm still like a member of their family.

Wrong. They gave me my new baby raise when they found out they were expecting.

I went to the hospital with DC and the grandparents. I was asked to stay but didn't hold the baby (I didn't ask and wasn't offered). No one held the baby, except the parents. When they got home it took a few days for them to ask me to hold the baby and I was sooo excited!! I didn't want to ask to hold the baby until they were ready. I've been with the family 6 years.

For every family that had a baby after I started with them, I was the one to bring the older sibling(s) to the hospital and I stayed with the family and took photos and got to hold the baby, etc. These were all families I had been woth long-term, and had seen MBs breastfeed, helped nurse MB through morning sickness and kept the house running smoothly during the exhaustion of late pregnancy, so it felt natural to be there for the culmination. Those moments are among my most treasured memories.

Yes for 1, no for the other. For the first, my experience was a lot like yours. For the second, older kid and myself were coming off a stomach bug so couldn't go to the hospital. We did lots of Facetiming though!

Nope, never have, was always told to keep older child at home until baby came home from hospital. Great family you've got there.
