I think this mother sounds very disorganized + thus scatterbrained.

She has no right to keep changing your start date(s). She is already showing you her true colors and trust me, they sure are not pretty.

She obviously thinks so little of you that she is doing this. Plus, you are learning that her word carries no weight at all.

I suggest you send her an e-mail or text and let her know that you had planned on working when she told you that you would be. Let her know you fully understand things happen in life, but she has "stood you up" a few times now and you just are not getting a good feeling regarding this position.

I would quit before I started here. Wish her the best and move on and forward OP.

I had a family do something similar told me I had the job, and kept pushing the date back all the while they had hired someone and were working out the details with her but wanted to keep me available in case it didn't work out. Please let the mother know you can't continue to hold your time for free. If you don't start Monday, I'd cut my losses with her but honestly it's probably best to look for a new position anyways. Wow, that's pretty shitty of them, PP. I would be pissed. To the OP - I would keep your options open, start applying to jobs again, and if you don't start on Monday, definitely start interviewing. I hate flaky people.

OP here. Yes we have signed a contract, they checked references, did a background check, etc. We did have a start date in contract but they keep mending it.

Didn't your contact specify a start date?

They wouldn't even be paying the holiday because it falls on a Saturday.

I think you need to communicate with her that you need an exact date, and if she changes it you will still be paid. You are essentially now keeping your time for this family and not getting paid.

Start looking for another job this weekend. Regardless of whether or not you start on Monday, your employers have no respect for your time or budget. This is a HUGE red flag, OP.

I accepted a position in early June to start with my NF last week. I really liked them and they were so excited about having me. MB went back to work last week and her mom came to help out. I was a little annoyed but understood it's a difficult time. She changed my start date to Tuesday ( yesterday). MB tells me last minute her mom was covering yesterday but I will be needed today. Then she texts this morning that my start date will be Monday instead.

I understand it's a tough transition but this is getting a little ridiculous. I am starting to question if I made the wrong choice accepting the offer and losing faith I will actually start on Monday. I do really like them but I need to know I have reliable work. What do I do? Bring it up to her, quit..?
