I would keep a very close eye on her if I were you, PP. Is she engaging the babies in narration and conversation? Reading to them? Making sure they have tummy time and outdoor time?

Your nanny could easily be earning 25 to 40% more -- why did she choose to work for so much less?

I work from home, so I hear her upstairs with the kids all day. she talks to them, sits on the floor paying, takes them for walks to hang out with other kids/nannies. Most of the nannies I know make around that much.

How does she support herself on $16/hr in Silver Spring?
Or is that "not my problem"?

You get to what you paid. Any person who really need a job and don't earn any credential or reference would work for$17/h for two children. However, if u think that your child deserve a quality childcare provider who would engage and nurture ur baby, then paid at least 12/ per child. So qualify nannies came along for interview. It's all about what u think your child deserve. Good luck.

A nanny share in Ashburn, for 45 hours per week, will run you $17-19 per hour total for the first 40 hours and time and a half for the remaining 5 hours.

Nannies do shares to earn more than with one single family. A good nanny (educated and experienced) for just one baby runs $18 an hour easily so two infants should be closer to $23 - $25 an hour. I am talking about a good nanny here - someone who will engage the babies and not treat them like a sack of potatoes.

Two share babies are a lot more work than twin babies. A lot more.

The lowest that I've seen shares advertised is 18/hr. for a nanny with at least moderate experience (ie. at least one share reference, and 1-3 other references which may or may not be shares).

Oh, nanny shares are often higher since its split by two families. $20/hr, so 10 per family.

$25-30/hour.
You should try the two babies yourself for just one day. It's a boatload of work!!

Does anyone have any insight into the going rate for a live out nanny for two infants in Ashburn? We're doing a Nanny Share with another family, will be a 3 month old and 5 month old when we start. I was thinking $17 an hour (as we had looked at $15 per hour for one child). Thank you!
