MB here and I agree that it is none of my business what my nanny does in her off time and if she doesn't need schedule accommodations for her classes, I would not expect her to mention it in the interview.

Further, if she did chose to share it with me months later, I would never assume she lied to me in the interview and her disclosure would not at all affect her employment with me.

I would never mention either in an interview or after I started working -- why would I?

I do contracts for 1-2 years with the option to renew. If you are available the hours the family wants for that time period, what's the issue?

Do not mention it but don't lie about it if asked. Never lie about it but never mention it after you get the job either. It is not your employers business what you do with your free time.

I have met some families who actually prefer it when the nanny is in school.

It makes her look responsible + mature, I suppose.

The only thing they may not like is if you have scheduling conflicts down the line.

However, I caution you to not lie about anything because then you take the inherent risk that you will be caught, then they will just assume that you are not a person w/integrity and may fire you on the spot.

It is no employers business what you do when you are not working. Yes, keep this information to yourself. If you stay professional (and don't chatter on an on about your own life) they never need to know.

Leave it out unless specifically asked. If asked down play. Families want to be your first priority.

I have lied about all kinds of things to previous employers. I gave them my Skype number as a reference and when they called it pretended to by my own reference. If the only thing you are being untruthful about is that you are in fact in school I would consider that totally fine.

It is none of their business what you do during your off time as long as it is legal. If your hours are set them the have to get home in time to relieve you.

Both of our nannies have been students. We only need part-time, so it works great for everyone. Our current nanny is moving on this fall to a full-time graduate program, so I'm hoping we can find another student!

So, just one perspective, but I think you should mention it.

Keeping quiet is all well and good if you KNOW, 110% absolutely sure, that you will never have a class time overlap or conflict with work hours. Because if a conflict happens, that would be a damn awkward conversation.

What you do during your own time is 100% your business. If you want to share, that's up to you. If you believe it is keeping you from getting work, I'd be inclined to keep it to myself.

Nanny here- I wouldn't mention it.

I would think you were very weird if I hired you and then found out you omitted that you are in school.

Lately I'm coming across parents who refuse to have a nanny in school. My schooling will not interfere with work, but I will only be a nanny for two more years. A friend of mine suggested I not be so open about being in school. The same goes with occasional babysitting for previous families. Mbs - how would you feel?
