+1 I am in the same position as you except that I am waiting for my final check before I mail back their keys.

Go to local Wage and Labor Office and report her. They will get your check and possibly give her a fine. Depending on whetebyour are, she may have to pay you interest.

ForgOT, call local SHERIFF and explain situation and ask for a Deputy to accompany you to pick up your things and return her key.

No, I wouldn't enter someone's house without permission, even when you have a key. I would try to set something up with her to get your stuff and give back her key. If you try for about 2 weeks and get no response, so if it is clear that she is ignoring your request on purpose, then talk to the police. Explain the situation and ask if you can have an officer meet you at the house when you know they are there. He can stand there while you get your bag and give back the key. They will probably behave themselves then.

I think the mother is angry at you for giving notice after only a few weeks.

Sounds to me as if she found someone else, or is just plain mad.

Unless your things are quite valuable to you, I would just count my loss and move on.

I would be mad too that she was holding my stuff, but just so I wouldn't burn that bridge more, I would mail the key to her. Or if she doesn't live too far, I would show up if she didn't respond to you after 48hrs.

It sounds like she is completely done with you and never wants to see you again.

But she has no right to steal your things just because she is angry.

I would just change the locks if my ex-nanny did this.

The truth is, it likely doesn't matter if you do. They're probably changing the locks anyways. Hopefully it was nothing expensive that was left there.

Yes, of course you can hold their keys. If she doesn't respond then forget your things at their hose and toss their keys. What assholes. Better luck in your next position, OP, and I hope you are taking the rest of the week off!

I'd give it another day before you assume the worst.

I have a bag there with some things like hand lotion, a few shirts, and a mini toiletry kit. MB knows this as she told me I should bring those things and keep them in my charges room ( he spits up a lot). I asked her when can I come to retrieve my things but she hasn't answered me back. I called and it almost seems like I'm blocked ( one ring, straight to voicemail). Can I hold their key until I get my things back?

I'm sure they don't really care about their key. What are you going to do? Come rob them? Leave their key out on the street with their address taped to it and risk someone breaking in and hurting them and their child? Just throw it away and forget about your things! They don't want to see you!
