OP, it sounds like what you need is a "Stand-In-Parent" to run the house and care for the kids as you would if you were home. Advertise the job on the sitter matching sites, give a thorough job description, and consider being open to hiring women who are old enough to no longer have kids at home and want some extra income. A Granny Nanny, you might say.

Hope to God you meant "had the cars washed" not "washed the cars". My DD is a college student who babysits occasionally in NYC and I pray she never runs into anyone like you who says, "you can ask a college student to do anything".

+100, my daughter goes to American University and pray she's not washing cars either.

Sure, your kids are older now and do not need diapers changed or to be bottle fed, however they still need an adult close by just in case. I absolutely would. Right now, I pay $15-$17.50/hour, plus mileage on driving. I would probably offer $20-22.50 DOE.

Considering this person will be doing add'l duties along with supervising your kids, please make sure you offer a competitive and fair hourly wage.

Sure, your kids are older now and do not need diapers changed or to be bottle fed, however they still need an adult close by just in case. And the nanny will be giving you her time plus doing extra stuff so it would only be fair to pay her what you would pay a laundress, cook and personal driver.

That's my point. They don't really need a babysitter anymore. The days I telework, they can let themselves in the house, check in with me, get their own snack and do their homework without any direction. But, they can't drive themselves to activities or home if they need to stay late at school. And I don't like having the nearest responsible adult hour away, especially when the MS student has activities and the ES student is on her own. Hence, the wanting someone who can provide very minimal supervision and chaufer services, but primarily focus on making dinner and running laundry or other light housework. Basically, I need someone to be me a couple afternoons a week. I'm looking for a website, agency, position title -- somewhere to start looking.


Post in the forum section for housekeepers, and title it housekeeper/chauffeur. You can try posting chauffeur/housekeeper in the nanny search sections, but I don't know what the response would be.

Get a grip. Some people actually enjoy washing cars. I bought a car while I was in college and washed it myself regularly. I would have been thrilled if someone else offered me cash to wash their car too. Some people know they're not too good for manual labor and shockingly some people enjoy it. Our nation wouldn't be so fat if we weren't collectively so lazy.

Hire a housekeeper/chauffeur, but be aware that she will not be responsible for homework supervision or anything else related to child behavior. Or get a college kid again.

I telework three days a week. For the last several years, I have hired a college age girl to babysit one the other two, which has worked well. She usually meets the bus, helps with snack, oversees homework and music practice and drives to extracurriculars. This year, my kids turned 11 & 13 and have become a lot more independent, and the babysitter usually just does her own homework and drives the kids to any extracurriculars. Looking forward to next year, I am not ready to leave my kids completely alone, because DH and I are both an hour away. Instead, I's like to find someone who can come in 2 afternoons a week to run laundry and start dinner, but also Be an adult keeping an eye on the kids, and do any driving needed. Is this possible? Where would I find such a person?
