22:14 here. I thought about it, and I've responded to ads placed by friends and colleagues of the parents, the parents only did the interviewing. It always strikes me as strange when those happen. At least the relatives make sense.

Bizarre.

I've interviewed with a MB and her friend before, but only because the friend was better at interviewing than the DB.

I've had aunts screen potential hires for a single father, but as soon as I was done talking to the second woman, she told me that she and her sister would tell the dad that he needed to call and talk to me.

One single dad had his mom and dad living in the MIL cottage out back, so his mom wanted to talk to me.

I'm currently talking to another single dad. He did the initial call, his (deceased) wife's sister called yesterday, and I'm supposed to talk to his sister tomorrow before arranging a skype call with him for early next week.

I don't have an issue with female relatives talking with me before a single dad makes a decision, as most of them bring up other concerns that the dad hasn't considered. Most of the time, they're also involved with the kids, and the more adults I can get to know before starting, the better.

I would NEVER consider a family if I don't get to talk to the parent(s). Heck, I prefer to talk to both parents separately if they have split custody!

Well, I think that's totally nuts and I'm a parent.

I wouldn't trust anyone else to hire a nanny and I can't really envision how that would work for either side. Just seems crazy to me.

Recently been searching for a new position while my current one comes to a close. Lately I've been messages and calls from relatives or colleagues of the parents about the postion. That makes some sense and not a huge deal. 4 out of 5 interviews I had last week I was blindsided but meeting the relatives, friends, co-workers. No where in site were the parents or the children. I work with infants so not a huge deal, but how can I know if the position is the right fit, if I can't even meet the parents? I got 3 offers so far and turned them all down. How can a parent offer someone to be a nanny when they never met that person? This whole thing seems incredibly strange to me. I've never encountered this in the past. Am I only the only nanny who thinks this is insane?
