Ugh. It's almost always parents caving to the kids that results in kids eating crap.

I've had one who ate crackers (2 year old) and brother (4) ate ice cream and some berries.

Twins (9) ate sugary cereal for dinner. 1 ate nutella on crappy white bread for breakfast and lunch, the other ate sugary cereal for breakfast and peanut butter sandwiches for lunch (about 1-2 tsp peanut butter, 2 tsp honey or 1 Tbl jelly). Both had a little debbie in lunch every day, snack was chips, little debbie or the same sandwiches again. No juice, no milk, no water, just "juice drink" or pop. I swear, trying to get either boy to eat 1 veggie or fruit a day was a nightmare.

I understand you totally! It's so hard when you have a demanding job and are stressed and active, but not necessarily always in a way that burns calories efficiently.

And kids do snack a lot -- healthy snacks or not -- so it's hard not to be constantly around food.

I'd suggest trying to cut back your portion size if you know you're prone to snacking along with the kids. Have a smaller lunch because you know you're going to have an apple and crackers a few hours later, etc. And try to fill up on the healthy stuff as much as possible. If you're serving cheese and pretzels, have mostly cheese. If you're serving toast and jelly, forego the jelly. Etc.

Can you find more ways to get outside and go to parks now that the weather is getting nicer? Maybe you can add more physical activity into the schedule for everyone -- things like walks that will also give you exercise.

Obviously the nf is buying it. So they let their children eat it, I had a nanny job years ago working for a dr no less who wanted me to feed her school age children 20 Oreos per day.
4 in with lunch
4 in a snack at school
4 after school
4 after dinner
4 before bed.

The children ate no fruit or vegetables and only ate macaroni and cheese for lunch and dinner. Not all families are so strict.

Haha. That actually made me laugh. Thanks.

Do you think you are stress eating by any chance?

Because caring for young kids is very stressful.

I do smoothies, greek yogurt, veggies, fruit, almond milk, sometimes nuts. It works for kids and for me.

We also do healthy foods for meals and snacks. 5-6 veggies, 3-4 fruits, 3 meat/nut, 3 dairy 3 starchy carb (corn, potato, quinoa, wild rice, etc. I try to steer clear of white rice and wheat) over the day, spit into meals and snacks. If the kids want more snacks, it's veggies.

I roast/steam vegetables on Sunday and package them into individual containers to bring with me every day. It keeps me (generally) from snacking on things I shouldn't eat. I am overweight already and if I snacked on the kids stuff I'd have an even bigger problem. I like steamed beets for the afternoon when I start feeling like I'm in a sugar slump.

I am with the posters who solve this problem by feeding my charges only food that is gealthy for me to snack on as well. Today we had homemade butternut squash pancakes with almond butter, melon, and cheese for breakfast. I had some melon. For snack they just had milk and I had water. For lunch they had sauteed zucchini and radish and vegan pesto quinoa and I had the same. For afternoon snack they had rice crackers and hummus, and I had the same. There's no temptation because our "snacks" are still food I can eat even on a diet.

OP>

Lol. Yes I know how to cut fruits and actually the family I help out is not the healthiest but I am the one who encourages it. Always buy fruits and veggies but like any household there are some snacks that are allowed.

I find it funny that you guys are acting so hostile.

There are times when I allow the kids to have a treat or snacks. They eat fruits and veggies but um, hello they are kids.
So grow up . It's not like they only eat Teddy grahams or chips --Im giving possible examples --but the mom is always one to OK it or not.

Some of you are seriously losers.

Um, no, I don't have this issue. I prepare healthy food for meals and snacks, for my charges and myself. I find I put on weight in between positions, and I lose weight while working.

You have to simply stop yourself from eating anything but your healthful and planned meals. I have to be so strict with myself and NOT eat one bite of my charges foods or snacks. It does go against my upbringing to throw away uneaten and untouched food but my health has to be my first consideration.

So I eat nothing when I am working but my homemade bag lunch and snacks when dieting.

Hi Y'all.

I've been losing weight for a quite a while now. And I go on this long healthy streak.. for a few months then a cave. And I found that after nannying for a REALLY long time..I tend to give into the demands of the job and eat along with the kids. Mostly stupid little snacks. Teddy Grahams, chips here and there. Juice. Our family (the one I nanny for is fairly healthy) But I find myself slipping.

I'm wondering if Im just a fatty at heart or...do other nannies do this too????
