+1 Think about it, OP, even if this is not the schedule you want to keep for the long haul. Close to nine grand TAKE HOME could be the start of a nice nest egg for you or one hell of a vacation!

It's still the same at 45 hours, after taxes I wouldn't see the extra money

Would you be willing to meet them halfway and work a 45 hour week?

If she fires you for saying no, you will have no problem getting unemployment. Document this request, however, by text or email, so you have proof.

I don't know what the child's age has to do with anything, I nanny for little kids and we drive somewhere every day or two.

I agree, if you aren't interested in more hours, let them know, but be prepared for them to find someone else.

Yeah. Just say no. Don't make it too dramatic. Just say, I'm sorry don't think that will work out for me. They get rid of you, they get rid of you. Plenty of families who would be happy with 40 hours a week!

I would just say, I'm sorry but I think that I will not be able to work 40 hours a week. I have to take into account the time it takes to travel to and from work, and I would also like to make sure that I have some time into order to take care of my personal things.

Are you working from 8-6 non stop? Perhaps you can ask for a raise in order to compensate.

50 hours is A LOT!!! I mean especially if you are with the kids all day long. Do you have weekends off? Do they pay your for gas?

I was asked recently if I would be interested in working 50 hours a week opposed to 40. I don't want to loose my job If my employers look for someone who can work 50 hours a week. Financially and time wise for me it's just not worth it. I would have to get up at 6:30 to arrive to work by 8, get off at 6, but not get home Til 7. After taxes it would only be an additional 168$ and once you break down to 5 days that's 33$ for 2 extra hours so basically I'd be getting time in a half but after taxes my normal rate. To me it's not worth it financialy. How is the best way to go about declining extra hours? Thanks in advance
