$6/ hour?

If the kids sleep though the night yes I would for 300. As an extra gig to make money why not

I wouldn't hire anyone who values her time so cheaply.

Haha I've never had that problem. Most families state what they will pay and I almost always say yes. Of course I would say yes to 1,000 but i would also say yes to 300

Why would you not want your normal rate during the day?

Because I see it as extra money I wouldn't have had kind of like a gift. My normal rate is very low anyway.

Can any other nannies weigh in if this is normal?

It is the law to exclude up to 8 hours for sleeping each night. This rate is a pipe dream and if you seriously have am employer willing to pay it, milk them for all they've got. They should pay for their stupidity.

And if you calculate that nanny is there for 48 hours at $1000 it comes out a regular rate of over $19/hr (19x40=760 + OT rate of $28.50 x 8 hours = $988 total).

So, again, it depends on nannies duties and how many children (and their ages, and if they are differently abled, etc), but $19/hr is a bit on the high end for the care of 1-2 non-infant non-special-needs kids.

AND, there is the fact that when most parents hire an overnight sitter, they generally arrange for a slightly lower rate during the hours the kids will be sleeping, or a slightly lower overall rate given that the nanny herself will also be sleeping on the job. Again, assuming there is not a special needs or infant child who is likely to be up at night, if the kids can be expected to sleep 11 hours each night (approx 8pm-7am?), and even if they don't nap, then the kids will be asleep for about 22 hours out of the 48 that nanny will be there, which is pretty high.

Anyway, again, I think $800 is fair, but $1000 might be better if you have an infant, special needs kids, expect additional chores, or want a highly qualified and experienced nanny.

OMG you weirdos and your constant overtime whining.

$1000 a weekend will get you every single nanny available to apply. It doesn't matter if it's $10/hr or $20 because no one else gets paid 24 hours a day even while sleeping, so you will have to have a good way of weeding out the losers.

By my calculations that is over $20/hr (assuming 48 hours). How many children is nanny responsible for? Do they usually sleep through the night or are they infants / not good sleepers? Will nanny be responsible for other chores aside from basic childcare duties?

I think it is higher than necessary honestly, unless you are talking about young infants who wake frequently, several children, special needs kids, or someone who will also be doing a lot of household chores.

Assuming you're talking about 1-2 kids who sleep through the night regularly (not infants), and no chores required, I think $800 is fair. But, if you want to get a great candidate (college educated, tons of experience, her own car and good driving record, etc) then $1,000 certainly would attract that caliber of nanny for those hours.

Is this a fair amount? It would be Friday and Saturday nights. Total hours would be about 48, maybe a bit more.
