It is not about training, The fantastic nanny is a Pied Piper with children. She is an older educated woman, a former preschool teacher - kind, silly and always smiling. DD took to her immediately and talks about her all the time now after only one meeting. This nanny has life experience and a stable, happy life away from work. No young nanny drama or smart phone addiction.
I offered her the job on her time schedule and will get a second nanny for the weekday nights.

Is she going to be able to so the times she is available from now until a long time from now? Or will her schedule change from time to time? What's the chance she'll leave for a full time job? Are you having to adjust your own schedule around her?
A fantastic nanny is important, but having the schedule work for you and your family is equally important, IMO. You may have a lot of trouble finding a decent, reliable person for only a few hours a week.

Do not lose the faith.
You can find a nanny who is outstanding if you offer a good hourly rate and job perks as well.
I say do not underestimate the nanny pool out there. There are a lot of wonderful and loving nannies out there that can make your perfect part-time nanny make a run for her money.

Depends on your needs OP.
If what the great nanny can't do is just babysitting kinds of time, then hire a babysitter and keep the great nanny for the core hours of actual nannying.
But I don't recommend significantly working around your core needs for any one individual. That will just lead to stress and frustration on all sides.

We found a part-time nanny and love her. She is extra-ordinary... but not available at all the times we need.
Is it better to keep her and hire a second nanny/babysitter for the nights she isn't available or just scratch the whole thing and get one nanny (who may or may not be as good) who can do all the times we need her?
