I nanny for two older kids, not infants or toddlers, and I have on degree and no real nannying experience (a little babysitting and some other work with children) and I make $25/hr. Degrees and experience can only help you so much, at one point it will come down to personality and attitude.

Sure. But some will be cheaper and some will be more.

Going rate is pretty tough OP. I have paid an average of $16/hr (average of a base rate for 40 hours and 10 hours of time and a half) for a 50 hr/week position for twins, since they were born.

I hired a nanny when they were infants who was with us for almost 4 years, rehired at where our nanny of many years was when she left. We're adjacent to Chevy Chase.

Both nannies were citizens, first nanny was far more experienced than the one we just hired, but the job is tougher now w/ some more specific requirements.

There are candidates who didn't consider the job at that rate, I'm sure. But I had dozens of applicants both times I was looking and had zero trouble finding qualified people - it was just an issue of who was the best fit for our family.

Good luck. Definitely get the word out in your neighborhood.

Ask your mom friends in the neighborhood. Call 3-4 DC agencies and see. Do not trust crazy Dcum numbers.

YES. YOU ARE WRONG. Come on, OP - think about this a second... You have to list what is important to you before you can give a blanket statement like that.

Are you intending to hire an undocumented nanny and pay in cash? If yes, then you are way over-market in any area.

Do you want a college graduate or a great deal of experience as a nanny or a preschool/elementary school teacher? If yes, you are under market for two children.

What are the duties you expect your nanny to perform? Driving, tutoring, teaching a second language or sign language, encouraging imaginative play, etc.

Nannies salaries are "all over the map" because a nanny's skills, experience and education are generally all over the map!
