I wouldn't do a raise at the half year mark because you would be creating a precedent that will be expected from now on.

If your nanny is doing such an awesome job, you can always offer her a nice little bonus, such as a gift card. Let her know you are very happy w/her work thus far + just wanted to get her a little something to show her your appreciation for her efforts.

We gave our current nanny a raise at 6 months. It was written into our contract that we would do a review and salary review at 6 months, and from then on salary reviews would be every twelve months from the last raise (so we don't give raises every six months like a pp said).

We had reasons to start her off a bit lower, though.

You don't want to start raises after only six months - it is something you will not be able to continue.

Tell her how much you appreciate her and tell her what a great job you think she is doing.

Best to ask her if she feels her wage is appropriate. I moved on when I thought I should be paid more, and got a higher paying job.

I agree that a raise isn't necessary but all of these other ideas of ways to show appreciation are great.

Gift cards, extra time off, and a heartfelt thank you can go a very long way.

How about letting her off early Friday May 22nd, so she can have an extra extra long weekend?

Nanny also - a card/Starbucks gift card or even gift card to a restaurant would be a really nice surprise!

Do you feel like you started her off low? If so, then a raise would be a perfectly appropriate way to show your appreciation. If not, a card and small token gift would also be fine.

I know that a raise is customary after a year, but does anyone give a raise at 6 months? And/or increase fringe benefits like Metro subsidy, etc?
Our nanny's birthday isn't until the fall, so I don't have another obvious opportunity to give her a gift and want to make sure she's happy and stays with us!
