The people who live above you have a right to go about their daily lives and this includes vacuuming every day and other noise. I'm sure the people upstairs wish they didn't have to listen to a baby crying in the middle of the night. Most likely they understand that babies cry and they don't call it stupid.

If you know the family vacuums at 12:30, put the baby down right after. There may still be other issues, but that one seems like an easy thing to solve.

Ok, so I know I'm weird, but here goes:

I won't work for a family whose child requires silence to sleep. I've always vacuumed, run the dishwasher/washer/dryer, had music playing or had some other noise going while a child was sleeping. It's ridiculous to assume that a child will ALWAYS have silence to sleep; it's much better if they learn as babies to sleep regardless of the environment.

And a dog in an apartment should be trained better. Again, something you should talk to the owner about. I have always had a dog and I have always lived in apartments - all of my dogs were trained to NOT bark. Not a stupid dog just a very stupid owner.

I think sometimes people forget that other people are home during the day. Just talk to the offenders, OP, politely and honestly.

This.

This condo has wood floors and I assume the one above does as well from how loud the noise is, which makes me wonder what in the hell they have to vacuum 5 times a week, but anyways - IT'S LOUD. Then, the neighbor directly next door is constantly in and out of the apartment with their small children in tow, which adds to the noise. Additionally the family dog is stupid and barks constantly, which means if there is even the slightest noise, he will bark. I know the parents have talked to the neighbors before but it's getting worse and I don't know what to do. Baby needs to sleep and literally can't. There is already a noise blocker in his room. I am at my wit's end.

Sorry OP, but I have to take issue with you calling out the family dog as "stupid."

He is a dog, he is simply doing what dogs do when they hear others outside, they bark. It doesn't make him stupid, it's not like he lacks any sense of intelligence because he barks at others.

No offense, but you sound ignorant.

Eminem Nanny, you aren't one to call anyone ignorant.

here's a novel idea - have you told the upstairs neighbors the baby's naptimes? it is a perfectly acceptable thing to vacuum your own apartment at noon on a weekday. most people aren't even home at that time, so in their mind they are probably doing it at the best time for everybody. as for the neighbor next door, deal with it - it's apartment living. you really can't tell somebody they can't leave their apartment during certain hours because you live next door and the baby is trying to nap. honestly it sounds like you're incapable of being a nanny in an apartment

I just text the mom upstairs if it's too loud and she will try to accomadate my request and I offer her the same courtesy.

White noise machine if you don't already have one. Adjust nap time slightly. Muzzle the dog. If all else fails, car or stroller naps.

I would try a sound machine and if they vacuum clean every day at 12:30 I would put the baby down at 12:30 instead of 12.

There are noise canceling headphones for baby. They look pretty ridiculous but I keep seeing a kid in the neighborhood with them - his mom puts them on for dance class, the kids' music jam session, basically any venue with sound!

I have the same issue. Not much you can do about it. City living sucks!
