You can get two high needs babies, which results in lots of crying all day. The nanny won't tell you though.

-Pay taxes separately - you each need to set-up payroll (she is technically employed by two employers)
-Set location or switch between locations
-vacation and paid sick leave (2 weeks usually in summer/winter; 3 sick days)
-agree who will get nanny if child is sick (like daycare, you will likely need to stay home with sick kid)
-pay between $25/hr ($12.50 each) PLUS taxes
-pay weekly, bi-weekly, monthly
-find nanny willing to do a share (ideal if kids are the same age)
-agreed to activities, nap schedules, meals
-set hours per day
-agreed to OT if one family is late
-have a contract on all of these issues

Why would a nanny do two babies for 16? That's plain stupid to even suggest such nonsense. Most nannies get more than that for only ONE child.

Pardon my misunderstanding. I agree that a share nanny would expect over 25.

There are probably many threads on this but these are more difficult to pull together but worth the savings. Things to discuss: (1) age of the children (same age, etc); (2) place of the share (your house?); (3) cost (between $20-25 total or $10-$12.50 each); (4) type of nanny?: (5) need to each have a separate employee number and each must pay taxes separately (nanny will get a w-2 from both of you); (6) sick days (who gets the nanny?); (7) vacation and paid leave must be agreed on with both families; (8) need a detailed contract; and (9) finding the "right" fit - need to have similar parenting ideas...good luck!

I'm interested in pursuing a nanny share for DS but have a lot of questions regarding cost, logistics, etc. of course I realize that specifics will vary but in general, what do most arrangements look like? This is in DC, btw.
