Definitely talk to your NF about getting a noise machine or using an app during naptime. Does this frequently wake up your charge? Sometimes babies just adapt to the noise around them during naptime.

My previous NF lived in a townhome community. It was a great neighborhood, but the people next door were retired, so they were home all day. In the summer, the community was always having work done. One summer, they seemed to be working on the roof and gutters for 6 weeks on top of all of the yard work that was constantly going on.

It put me over the edge when the community manager came and rang the doorbell EIGHT times during my charge's naptime when the front door was open and I was sitting on the couch right next to the door. He could see me, and still rang the bell multiple times. Then when I came to the door, he said it wasn't important since my MB wasn't home. WTF.

People won't really care if you have children, and it is expected that you will hear some noise. If you don't want to talk directly to the people upstairs, and if your NF won't do anything, have you considered maybe placing an anonymous complaint with the landlord? Not sure how that would work since you're not on the lease, but in my complex if any complaints are made they have to issue a "friendly reminder."

Noise machine is the only option. That's one of the downsides to living in a poorly constructed apartment. Talking to the neighbors won't help. BTDT.

I would start using a white noise machine for the child.

Or if you have an iPad or they do, you can use the white noise on that.

As for the neighbors above, while I completely sympathize w/you on this, you really don't have a leg to stand on here. The one who needs to complain are your bosses since they are the ones who reside underneath them.

Like I said, I have brought this up numerous times. I don't know how they do it on the weekends and other days because when I say the noise is constant I am not exaggerating. I just don't feel comfortable essentially complaining to people I don't know, and I get that maybe there's just nothing that can be done, just going a little crazy over it. Additionally, upstairs neighbors have a yippy dog whose constant barking riles up my NF's dog - another issue altogether - who then barks (& barks LOUD), which ALSO wakes baby up.

Talk to the neighbors about it, OP. You are the perfect person to do it.

We had the opposite issue with downstairs neighbors who complained that my NF was too loud. I went down and asked the neighbors what they were hearing and how I could make it better. I told them my job was at risk. No more complaints.

How about using a noise generator, it could help.

OP here - I think the apartments are laid out exactly on top of each other, and they apparently vacuum the length of it every day, so there's no where to go to get away from the noise. It's just so frustrating, every day within 10 minutes of putting him down the noise starts up. I have paid attention because at first I just thought I only noticed it when I went to put him down, but in reality they really do just start doing things at exactly his nap time.

Is there a different room that the baby could nap in that might be less noisy? Like the parents' bedroom since they won't be there during the day?

I am a nanny to a 19 month old toddler. The family lives in the basement unit of an apartment building. The neighbors directly above them make SO MUCH NOISE. It's all the time but really gets ramped up in the afternoon, aka nap time. If they aren't literally running around in heels up there, they're vacuuming, moving furniture, hammering - EVERY DAY. I know that there's little anyone can do about their neighbors and I also understand the entitlement inherent in a rant about others who don't have to care about baby's sleep, but it's just the most annoying thing in the world, and is causing more and more frustration. It makes me more annoyed with the parents than the neighbors - I have brought this up at least 10 times, and I know that it frustrates them too, but I'm not gonna be the one to talk to the neighbors about it! Grrrrrr any other city nannies deal with noisy neighbors? Vent over
