A neighbor just moved in recently, SAHM, and thought for some time that my nanny is my kids mom. Even after the nanny explained (the neighbor's English is ok, but accented, but is fluent in my native language so we speak often)... Anyway after about 3 weeks I finally explained to the neighbor who is who... I think that she was just surprised that a foreign born mom will have American nanny and not other way around. I wonder what other people think when I talk to kids in public with slight accent.
You know when you ask them. No mystery there.

When you are a regular at the playground/ playgroup/ storytime etc you get to know who is the nanny and who is the the SAHM.
You also hear kids call their nanny "nanny" or mommy "mommy" etc.
It's not a big mystery.
Anyway in my experience the SAHMs I've come across are very kind to all the kids and as a side note have been very welcoming I prefer to hang out with the nannies because we have more in common and a similar perspective.

I feel like we had this same topic like a month ago.
Anyway, no this has not been my experience people in my are are pretty friendly to kids.
One reason it happens might be the Moms may not notice the other kids or them smiling.
I know we don't like. to say so, but we as nannies are paid to focus on kids that are not our own . Many of the moms are focused on other things at times.

I have noticed the same but I think it is understandable. Nannies generally love kids or they wouldn't choose to be nannies. Not true of parents who may love their own kids but not particularly care for other kids.
I do hate it when a mother can't return a smile to an unrelated little one. What would it cost them? Smile back!!!

This hasn't been my experience, but to be fair I don't know very many nannies.

This has been my experience in a community/group setting. The other nannies are so generous with their smiles and encouragement to other kids while the mothers aren't (generally - there have been exceptions). Some mother actually scowl at other little kids in the room and only smile at their own child.
I would have thought it to be the other way around.
