MB here.

I would actually appreciate the variety of experience on your CV. It tells me you are interested in expanding your skills and that you potentially have the interest and ability to grow with a family from the early years into elementary school with a variety of age appropriate ideas and interests.

Go for it, OP!

I'm the OP. They are ready have a house cleaner. Two months worth of travel in the summer. Part time hours and some weekend hours some weeks.

Thanks everyone for the replies it looks like it could be a good addition to my CV if I market it well

I don't think that's a negative and wouldn't look at it poorly if I were seeing your CV and looking to hire a nanny. Just be ready to explain why you did this and why you want to go back to littler kids. If it's an opportunity you want to explore, then do it! Maybe it will open some new doors you hadn't anticipated and you won't even want to go back to working with little kids.

If you'll be helping the kids with their homework, I think that's a plus for reverting back to preschool kids. If I was reviewing your resume, I would assume you'd be capable of coming up with educational enrichment activities on your own instead of me having to create the activity and provide step by step instructions for you to carry it out.

MB here. I wouldn't see that as a negative OP. If it seems like a great opportunity go for it.

We hired a nanny with the express hope that she would be with us until our kids were in school so someone who has a really well-rounded background w/ kids of all ages would be attractive to us.

Enjoy!

The only issue I see is that you may not want to go back to toddlers. Elementary school aged kids are so much easier.

No, I don't think so. As long as you get a great recommendation. Yes, it might be hard to transition back to very active and crazy toddlers -- but working with toddlers is never easy.

Hi there,

I'm considering taking a job with school aged children for a year. It looks like a great opportunity and I will get to do some neat travel with the family. However I'm usually a nanny for pre-school aged children (my current charge is 5months and in my last job the children were 6 months and 2 when I started). Will I have trouble transitioning back to pre-school ages kids at the end of the job? Will a year with children who aren't small detract from my CV?
