Op here. They do stuff like this too. They almost always text to let me know when they've gotten off work, they know I appreciate it because the days with their schedules can be extremely long and they are nice enough to keep my updated. Some days, however, they text me absolutely nothing and creep up on us in the house. I feel like a criminal.

Yep, MBs like to pull that alll the time

Creepy parents should just do daycare.

I've also had MBs (and DBs) set little "traps" just to try to see if you're putting your hands where they shouldn't be (say, on the bills or personal papers they leave out on the counter.) Call me super observant, I guess. But I always notice it, and it's a pretty crummy feeling. Doesn't do much to help the relationship between you.

Because your children are replaceable and your house isn't? There are cameras all over the property.

I had a MB who wouldn't give me a house key. It was kind of ridiculous, a little bit offensive, and a lot of inconvenience. Made me want to tell her to lighten up. If you're the type of person who would be so anxious about these things, why do you even have a nanny???

I'm an MB. The scariest thing about hiring a nanny is the trust issue. But it's about trusting them w/ my kids, the keys to my home, and every single thing I hold dear in this world.

Not the petty cash.

If I'm worrying about petty cash then I've hired poorly or I need therapy.

How to ensure that one hires a trustworthy nanny though is something I think about. How do you assess that in an interview? Obviously references are critical, but what if you're hiring someone newer to the profession, without significant references? Then it's a leap of faith.

THAT scares me.

I think they do it to see if they can trust you overall. Still, pretty shady if you ask me.

I agree with the OP.

Yes, it obviously happens. Anyone who doesn't notice it must be pretty blind

Good heavens.

You don't think leaving "wads of cash" out and around indicates trust?

Maybe you shouldn't have stopped taking your meds.

Can I just say, I am so sick of parents setting little traps to try and trick their nanny to find out if they can trust us or not. We always notice, and we are offended. Today I saw the pen you "casually" stuck in between the wad of cash you had left out, to see if Youd return to it moved. We know, ok?! I have never touched your stuff, and I would never steal your money. If you can't trust leaving someone in your home, then you need a different form of childcare. Had to rant!
