While I think you have good intentions + sound like a very kind-hearted person in general OP, I do not think it is such a great idea to offer your services up for free just because it is your boss's birthday.

I mean, imagine if you worked in an office job for example. You wouldn't offer to work late one night or come in on a Saturday afternoon and work for free just as a birthday gift for your boss, would you? Same dynamic.

It may be opening up Pandora's Box per say and showing them that you are the type of person who is very eager to please which is not a good asset to have as a nanny because this can come back to bite you in the butt tenfold.

A better idea for your boss's birthday aside from staying later (w/pay, I hope!) is to have you and the child(ren) make a nice, homemade birthday card for her and present it to her when she gets home. That should make her very happy.

Very, very few young employers know this.

For the zillionth time, employees do not give gifts to employers. If you give them free evening out for five hours and you make $15/hr, you are giving a $75 gift. This is stupid . Happy Birthday is sufficient.

I wouldn't give nail polish or a personal gift like that. If you absolutely must give you could do the date night sitting, but if you'd do that I'd give it a time frame.

"2-3 polishes" is nail polish? No, I have never heard of that! And NO, I would never give my employer something as personal as nail polish!

The kids are infants.. No project will be made by them hehe.

I'm in the minority but I don't give birthday gifts to my bosses.
I wish a happy birthday and may help the kids do an art project, but that's it.

I would say a card and an art project their kids made.

Boss asked if I could stay later next Tuesday for work, and I agreed. Her husband unknowingly also asked me 15 mins later and explained it was her birthday. Is it appropriate for me to give her a birthday card and 2-3polishes or a candle ? If it matters, I've been with the family for 8 months now. Thanks!
