If she is being this up front with you'll, she'll probably continue to be so. Carry on as you were and you'll probably know more by mid June is my guess.

I wouldn't push her to give you an end date. Carry on as though your job will be ending at the end of the summer, and once you have a position lined up, give your notice. Not having a specific end date allows you to be more flexible with your job search.

Do you have a contract that requires them to give you XXX days notice of termination? If so, you probably can't expect more than that amount of time but you can always ask for more. If you don't have a contract, ask for the two months you want. It is completely reasonable to have a deadline.

Ask for your reference letter FIRST.

My MB told me that they are soon making a change that may require them to end our arrangement, sometime around summer/fall. I would rather not say more in order to respect their privacy. I am HUGELY grateful that they were up front with me, and I will have ample notice if I won't be working with them anymore. However, I have about five months until I may or may not b employed and MB is just unsure what she will do. How much time should I give MB to decide? Ideally, I would want two months to look for a new position, with one month being the absolute minimum. Would it be reasonable to give a deadline? i would actually like to find a new position, we all get along very well but I have some challenges with this family that can't be overcome.
