My $40k/year nanny makes 10% of what I do? Oh really? Thanks for informing me I'm missing most of my income somewhere.

Her choice not to cook the food you buy and stock in the house.

I'd leave $10-20 a week for them when they go out or a gift card if you know where she is going.

People on this board must stop thinking that people who pay top dollar for educated and experienced nannies are all wealthy. We sacrifice to have the best possible nanny for our child. She is worth her hourly rate and then some -- but she also know that we cannot afford extras.

The fact that your nanny is generous with your DC means that she does understand.

We also leave petty cash for our nanny to use for any outings she wishes.

Maybe you could start leaving $10 for the week for a weekly snack or lunch.

Slightly different, but we fairly regularly gift our au pair with Starbucks gift cards (thanks for doing something, Valentine's Day present, etc). She's welcome to use them for herself but I know that they probably go out for a shared treat once a week or so.

My nanny family always provided weekly cash for outings. It was really nice.

My precious NF always paid for anything like this for their kids and myself. It was much appreciated. You should certainly pay for your child's food! It's a fun thing for him to do with nanny.

Since she is choosing to do it on her own, you don't have to. But it would be nice if you could give her a little "petty cash"--maybe $10-$20 week to use.

I don't ask her to but I have absolutely no problem with her doing it. It is always just she and DS.

My question is, do I need to pay for DS's share?
