My charge, 16 months, does this too. The little face goes into my lunch bag like, "what are we having today?" Very cute. And then he and I sit and eat "our" lunch. The same when I buy a muffin and juice for myself when we are out - I always have to get the little man his own straw!

I dont expect to be reimbursed for this at all - but it is kind of you to even ask about it, OP.

If you are already purposely buying most of the same foods she eats why doesn't she just use that for her prep sometimes.
This may be temporary as it was for our child from age 16mos to 20 months. She also loved to sit at the counter and watch her pasta or grilled cheese cook. And once preschool started it was moot, as she ate lunch there then got picked up.

The kids I care for are often interested in what I have and I'll bring extra of things they're likely to want. For some reason pinto beans were especially popular with one girl. I eat fairly clean, nothing packaged or processed so if they eat something it's likely to be beets, cucumber or bell peppers. Or grapes. The other day the 3.5 yr old saw my grapes and said "you're going to share those with us, right?" for the most part much lunches aren't very interesting to most kids bit I like to have them see me eat a variety of vegetables and I'd they want to try one I'll happily let them. If I have a treat they can't have or I don't want to share, I'll eat it they're napping.

I would not look at is as a money grab as child probably eats minimal amounts but food costs have gone sky high especially for fruits, veggies and such,miso it is nice for op to be concerned.

How about a gift card to her grocery store every few weeks? Could you ask her to cook some of the food at your house with your ingredients for the week for them both to eat? She can then slip it in her bag when he is not looking.

Just give her an automatic small raise. Say $5 - $10 per week . It's very nice of her to do so and very nice of you to recognize it.

No. you do not need to reimburse her for this or even offer to do so. This is her choice to do this.

Yes, you should offer - at least acknowledge her for sharing with your child.

It would be very nice of you to offer. Or you could offer to keep some fruit/veggies/drinks stocked at your house for her. I don't mind sharing my food with my charge, but it's nice to know I can supplement with an apple or some carrots from their home.
Unlike PP, my lil charge would happily eat my entire lunch and then some! Big appetite.

You can certainly offer but I doubt she will take it. My charge wants anything and everything that I am eating -- it is actually a great way to get him to eat more fruits and vegetables! And a toddler doesn't really eat much to make a dent in my lunch.
