Naps were altered so her kid could go to ballet, doctor, ect. I did not freak out- this is what would happen if our son was not an only- but it did not feel great either.
When we got into daycare it was refreshing to know that all the kids were on the same playing field.


Asking a friend who stays at home to watch your child is vastly different than a nanny bringing her own child, how is this not obvious?

OP here - thanks $10 an hour is what I was thinking. Part of the reason im doing this is to make it affordable to have in home care. I realize day care or other things may be cheaper but I work from home and wanted someone at the house with me. In terms of favoritism I'll defintely have an eye out for it to see how it goes but from our brief meetings I think it'll be fine since it's only part time. We'll see.

Yes! She should watch your child for free. Just explain to her what a favor you are doing for her. Maybe offer her an apple, but only one a day!

No she doesn't. Her child coming is a benefit. OP is still her MB and still determines how things are done for her child.


Yes. She does. If she accepts a discounted rate because her baby is there...she is "paying" her portion of the share.
Of course OP can determine how things are done for her child, but so does the nanny.

OT but aren't you afraid that she won't pay nearly as much attention to your son as her own son? Your poor little guy could be begging for her attention and she will choose him second to her own child. Your son will be growing up thinking he is second best.

Considering that we don't know the area you live in OP, this would be difficult to exactly answer, but in general since she is bringing along her own child that is considered a HUGE perk on her end plus it also means your child will get less attention from her and let's face it....He will get treated less favorably in most instances since he is not her child. It is only natural.

So I would pay her probably $10/Hr...??

Nanny shares of two kids, each different families pay $9-10/hr each. So I'd start there. More kids and the per kid rate goes down.
Nanny shares each family supplies their kids diapers, wipes, bedding, extra clothes, and food/milk/snacks.

So this is a "nanny-share" but since it's her own child, I'm not sure whats fair in terms of pricing etc. This is a part time arrangement so I will be paying her cash and if we increase hours to full time I can consider other benefits etc as well.

Just trying to figure out fair pay. She would come to my home, I have a pack and play and will clearly share all toys/baby stuff etc for whatever she needs for her boy.

What is a good hourly rate?
