I would say you should initiate your nanny search around June...No later than.

I think 2-3 months is a good time frame. Summer time can sometimes be tricky with vacations, so keep that in mind if you are going away or might have family in town visiting as that can easily eat up a week.

Your job is not an especially easy one with the 3 children under 4, so if it were me I'd probably start looking 10-12 weeks before I needed someone so that I had plenty of time to find someone who can manage your little ones.

Best of luck OP!

I started looking a few weeks into my maternity leave, roughly 7 weeks before I needed someone. It was perfect timing (hiring to start in December, began search in October.)

Good luck OP. You'll be looking at a great time given the school year transitions.

Have you been home with them until now?
I yes you want to give yourself extra time so you can have the nanny come over and everyone can warm up to each other.
At a minimum you want someone with experience caring for multiple young children which isn't too hard to find. I would start maybe mid June, just so you can give yourself time to find someone, time to transition them into your lives ( babysitting) , and account for summer vacations.

I think I started looking 6 weeks before my maternity leave was up.

Good nannies are available year round. It is a lie that you can only find good nannies during the summer.

When you should start to look depends on your needs.

Are you moving to a new area?
How old are your children?
Finding a nanny for newborn triplets is different than finding a nanny for a newborn, a preschooler, and a school age kid.
Do your children have special needs.

At the very latest I would say mid July, but you can start looking now.

July -- maybe even sooner to snag the good nannies who are about to end their jobs due to their charge starting school. September is a popular end date for a lot of nannies.

I'm new to this and will be needing a nanny in September to care for my 3 kids. When should I start actively looking?
