+1. happened to our 2 year old. it's very painful and we had to go to the ER and have the doctor put it back in place. talk to the nanny ASAP, you should not be afraid of talking with the nanny about a safety issue.

This is basic childcare stuff and safety. How experienced is your nanny?
You need to correct this asap and continue to monitor it, in person or via cameras. Children need picking up well beyond age 9 months....

Yes, because this is what pediatricians are for. Better yet take them all into the ER and have a nurse demonstrate proper infant carrying techniques. Really people! This is where we are at?

OP, why is this even a question you need to ask on a forum? Where did you manage to find a nanny who can't lift a 9 month old baby?

Of all the absurdity lately, this takes the cake.

Just be straightforward with her and clear. Don't make it a big deal. Just say "nanny, we notice you picking up child by her wrists/arms; please don't, as that can cause injury to her elbows and shoulders. Pick her up like this [and demonstrate]. If you're unable to lift her the proper way, we need to know. This is important to us and we appreciate you respecting our direction on this. Thanks."

She shouldn't be lifting her like this, you're going to have to show her how you'd like DD to be picked up and explain that even at (however many pounds your daughter is), putting that type of strain on her shoulders and elbows is dangerous.

No. Can dislocate young sockets. Under the armpits lifting is more common, if you can stoop down!

Check for other hand/arm injuries on the nanny. She may be hiding a health issue. Can she buckle a car seat correctly? React fast to an accident or something?

She can pull her arms out of socket. Its called Nurses elbow.

Just show your nanny and easier and safer way to pick up your daughter. "It might be easier for you, Mary, to life her this way _______" Actually, our nanny instructed both DH and I how to do it when DS started getting bigger and we lowered the crib mattress all the way down.

There is often a learning curve in things like this. Nanny also showed us how to get DS in and out of the car-seat without straining our backs.

We've had our nanny for 5 months now and she has been amazing. We love her and so does our 9 month old daughter. Now that our daughter is getting older and heavier, the nanny seems to have some trouble picking her up. The nanny sort of lifts her by her arms until she can scoop her up. I worry that it is causing shoulder strain, even though my daughter doesn't seem to mind or notice. I'm wondering how to bring up this concern with the nanny. We have a relationship built on mutual trust and I want to make sure I address my concerns appropriately.
