I was a super responsible and super reliable babysitter when I was in high school. I babysat for every kid in a three-block radius to my house, plus walked someone's dog every weeknight. I babysat from 12-33, and never once needed to call 911.


Lucky you. You may have been a good sitter, but you were a child. You lacked the experience and judgement that it takes to handle a true emergency.

I would say $15 an hour. A nanny who gets out early from another job, would probably be your best candidate. If you have a neighborhood listserv, you can post the hours you need. I'm sure you'll get some responses.

Get a few names, OP, and ask their rate. Or put an ad in care.com and ask the good applicants rate.

You will never get a straight answer here.

I cannot use a high school student. I need the nanny to pick up my child from preschool at noon 2 days per week and watch DC until the end of the work day (~5:00).

On this forum it is either $5 and hour and she'll wash your car or $75 an hour and you have to give her a manicure/pedicure.
