Normal nanny rates for one child in DC are $15-17/hr. It is true that you may have to pay a little more if you have them PT and doing things like driving or tutoring. In that case, maybe $16-18/hr tops.
You will find many excellent candidates at that price point. If you only require a HS student as a mother's helper, you can find many at $12-15/hr.

I was a super responsible and super reliable babysitter when I was in high school. I babysat for every kid in a three-block radius to my house, plus walked someone's dog every weeknight. I babysat from 12-33, and never once needed to call 911.
