Nanny
22 families in 16 years

I'll explain. I worked in a 5 year nanny share, and ended up with a total of 8 families.

Of the 18 families, 11 were decent people that I still have relationships with in 2015. 2 were average, and 5 were unpleasant.

Nanny

7 families in 13 years

1 amazing family, but the pay wasn't good
1 good family, they paid me the best with good benefits
2 nightmare families, who paid below market and treated me horribly
3 nice enough families with average pay

The 2 nightmare families I worked for were my first nanny employers. Since I was only 17 and 18 when I worked for these families I had no experience and no backbone. They completely took advantage of me and I have no clue why I continued to be a nanny with those two horrible experiences, but I'm glad I did. I'm with the good family currently and I'm happy in my job.

Parent. One nanny for 3+ years thus far.

She is fantastic in lots of ways, intermittently quite challenging in others. I trust her absolutely w/ my kids so I work around some significant occasional challenges and small ongoing frustrations.

It isn't a perfect relationship but I don't know that the perfect/excellent nanny exists (at least for the roughly 48-50k annual cost we can afford.)

We have used fill-in nannies for periods of extended leave and they were all qualified and competent - with varying degrees of "fit" for our family and varying costs. None made me feel tempted to replace our long-term nanny.

Parent.

Have only had one nanny.

Honestly have never met or seen any nanny as good as ours.

I think it would be interesting to see the overall ratio of good/bad employers and employees.

Questions:
Are you a nanny or a parent? How many nannying jobs have you had or how many nannies have you had?
How many truly excellent nannies/parents have you met?
How many truly awful experiences have you had?
How many were completely average?
