Nope, I've always contracted and billed what I felt my services we worth. And also I have been in the same apartment in downtown for 4 years now and my rent hasn't changed at all.

I feel my services are worth a dollar more an hour annually because I have a year's worth of experience that I didn't have the year before!!

My employers moved to a bigger and more expensive apartment and the FIL let is slip that my employers were dipping into their savings to pay for it.

I STILL asked and received my annual $1 and hour raise and a few extra benefits.

Their money issues are not my concern as my money issues aren't their concern.

Sounds to me like they are having money problems. Who would want to live in a house with only 1 bathroom unless you had to.

It depends on the location. They could be making a huge profit off there current home by renting it and it could potentially help pay for their new smaller home. But this depends on how much they already invested and the cost of property in each location.

But you shouldn't avoid asking for a raise after 4years because of this. If they can afford to purchase a new home and rent out their current then they are financially stable.

I have been with my current family for about four and a half years. We have a wonderful relationship and I just love love my charges.

I have been working at the same hourly rate for this time and was considering asking for a raise, not much just a dollar or dollar and fifty cents an hour. I was going to request one in the next month or so. I have rarely missed a day, am never late and I am very confident the family is 100% satisfied with my job performance as they recommend me to their friends on occasion for babysitting gigs and such.

Anyway, my Mom Boss told me yesterday (Friday), that the family was moving. Nothing major, just that they were moving to a smaller house about a mile or so away. They didn't specify why and I didn't ask. She sounded positive about the move and stated that she always wanted to live in that specific area as it is closer to her mom's house and the children's schools. However the two children would have to share a bedroom and there was only one family bathroom so they would be downsizing. I asked if they were going to sell their current house since I know they are paying a mortgage on it, and she told me that they were going to rent it out to tenants and that if I knew anyone interested to let them know and she would give me a finder's fee of $100.

I am totally clueless regarding anything Real Estate-related, so my question is this:

Do people usually move to smaller homes (downsize) and rent out their larger homes when they are having trouble paying their mortgages? Because if that is the case, then I cannot even fathom asking for a raise at this time.

Or could they just be actually "making" more money off of this...Like is this an investment thing?
