Yes, this is a true deal-breaker in my book because you will always be wondering if you will ever be fully compensated for your duties which is one problem you should not be stressing over.

After you finally collect every cent that is owed you, leave immediately.

You do not owe them any notice. If another family inquires why you left, I am quite sure they will fully understand your reasoning.

No it's not, only business have this protection. For citizens it would be a civil matter and would require small claims court, the police will not help you with a situation such as this.

Someone gave me a bad check for $850 and I called police and was told I could have her arrested because it wad a felony. This was Fa i rfax County.

Well when it actually happens and isn't just something someone told you over the phone then it will count.

My check bounced once with my old NF.

They had written the check out of the wrong account. MB apologized, and was crying. She paid me back and then some for incase I became over drafted.

Wow, sorry to hear about this. I would ask for cash and all penalties upfront. I've had this happen to me years ago, with a family in Bethesda. The "doctor" wrote rubber checks for the housekeeper, and yours truly. I knew this, because he was too cheap to get caller id, and had an old school answering machine where you could actually hear messages as they are being recorded. To top it off, he said the check bounced because I deposited the check 2days later than the date he signed it. Ridiculousness to the 10000000% power. I would look for something now, and quit as soon as I could... at the end of the day, if their checks are bouncing, you're essentially working for free.

I'm not one to suggest quitting without trying to work out the matter first, but in your case I think you should quit after getting your money. They clearly can't afford you. Even once is a bad sign, but twice in the beginning of employment is a huge red flag.

I'd call them right now and ask them to go to the ATM and get you cash. At least $500 which is the limit most people have. Then I'd either start requiring payment in advance (like a day care center) and/or look for another job. So sorry about that! I've had it happen too and it's frustrating.

I just started with a NF. My check bounced 2 weeks ago and they had to write me another one. Tonight I needed the cash for an unexpected emergency. I went to cash ( we have the same bank) my check and I couldn't because funds weren't available.

I am really upset as you can imagine because I am my getting paid on time. I feel like quitting. Obviously they can't afford me.
