I would give any holidays off, and accrue PTO at 1 day a month or something. If she needs a day off in her first month, she could take it unpaid, or agree to reimburse the pay if she quits before the end of the month.

I would just prorate the time accordingly. One week sounds fair, but not letting them use any of it for half of their time with you doesn't seem fair.

We'll soon be hiring a nanny for only 6 months. The candidates we'll interview are aware of the situation. What kind of PTO would you offer? 1 week after the first 3 months? Is something like that reasonable? Even though it's a short term position, I understand there are reasons that someone would still need time off.
