If you need 10 hours away from your kid after you've already been away from them 50 to 60 hours during the week, then you're a shitty parent.

I may hire a weekend nanny for about a year after baby #4 comes. 5-6 hours on Saturday and Sunday would probably be about right. My kids are 4 and younger.

My thought is that DH could use some down time on the weekend after the baby arrives, and then he's deploying about 7 months later for 6 months, and we don't have family around. A weekend person would allow me to rest a little, or take the older ones out while the little one naps.

I think the reasons people want weekend nannies are really variable.

I would assume first that people looking for a weekend nanny have some kind of unique work situation. I can't imagine working all week and barely seeing your children and then pawning them off every weekend to a nanny. Weekends are family time usually for every other family.

I'm currently working Monday thru Thursday as a nanny. I need a second job to make ends meet. I had a great tutoring gig for the last year but the family moved away at the end of last term. I have no idea how to find another good tutoring job and am considering looking for a weekend nanny job (maybe 10 - 12 hours). I mentioned my desire to work a weekend job to two nanny-friends who strongly advised against it. They told me that families who hire weekend nannies do it so they don't have to spend time with their rotten kids - that the charges will either be behavior problems or the parents will be lazy.

First, is that true (generally)?

Second, does anyone know the best way to find good tutoring jobs? (I have a masters degree in liberal arts and elementary teaching experience)?
