No, I wouldn't leave a job after only a month only because a better paying job came along. And I have proven that I wouldn't as I was offered a much higher paying position with another firm soon after I had accepted and started working at my current firm. I know the difference between right and wrong. I know how fast bad-word-of-mouth can spread.

No, as a nanny and a student, I would not do this to my employers. As PP wrote, you accepted the position KNOWING the salary.

Well, would you be ok with the reverse? I.e after a month of employment your NF found a fantastic nanny who charged $3 less than what you charged. So they fire you and hire her. Shitty, yes? There is your answer.

+1 As a nanny, I understand why you would want to take a higher paying job but it just isn't right this soon. You accepted your current position KNOWING the salary. It is not the same as someone who had other chores or other kids thrown at them after the first week.

I am newly employed with a family that is great. I am paid market rate for my area and I do like the family. I have been babysitting ( date nights) for a couple with a newborn and they offered me a nanny positon. The position will start in 3 weeks when her maternity leave ends.

The hours and duties will be the same as my current job. I will receive the same benefits but the pay is a $3.00/hour increase. That totals out to an extra $9,000.00 per year. These people are great just like my current employers.

Normally I would turn the offer down but I could use the extra income. I will be entering grad school ( doctorate program) in two years and I may not be able to work FT. My goal is to save as much as I can within these two years so I don't have to work as much once I enter grad school.

Lastly, I know its a stretch for my current family to pay my salary and asking for more money is out of the question. This family can afford my salary easily.

I feel I am having a moral dilemma. I know its wrong to take a position after being there for so little for more money because a position is so much more. On the other hand, I have to worry about my future and look out whats best for me.

Now that I laid it out, what would you choose?
