Perfect advice.

I agree. Why not give her the raise, and let her watch both children? With a new sibling coming along and starting preschool, your toddler would benefit from keeping some things familiar. Let him spend his free time at home with the nanny he knows and loves.

Why would you want your child at school for 10 hours per day?
Apply the money you'd spend on after care to increasing your nanny's pay and let your kid be in his own home.

Exactly. If the Nanny is the one on-call for sudden illness or vacation days for the older child, you have to compensate her accordingly. Simple.

I am a nanny - no matter if one child would be in school, for an additional child I would expect at least $1/hr increase.

We currently pay $18 / hour for one child. We are expecting our second but by the time the new baby arrives the older child will be in school. We have the option of doing after care so that would be all day (8-6) so nanny will no longer have many duties for older child unless school is closed. We do plan to give raise for second child but given that she still would be caring for one child what would be appropriate?
