I think people are missing the point. It's in her contract, end of story, doesn't matter how bad the roads are or aren't (I don't think they're that bad, but I'm from NY), schools are closed so she's off.

More like who doesn't. With all the teleworking and crazy weather/bad drivers in this area, it's best not to leave snow days up to whether or not your MB "needs" you, and how generous she's feeling. It's entirely too easy to spend your day behind a computer screen in the comfort of your home and say it's fine to travel in. My contract follows the federal government, which is much slower to shut down than schools, but if they do things are pretty nasty. Obviously I'm at work today, but my MB didn't even clear the steps to their house since she is teleworking. I'm not leaving snow days up to her.

So what is the lesson here? Don't live in the poor part of DC or don't hire a poor sitter?

Different parts of the DC metro area are getting different amounts of snow and have differing levels of municipal service to clear the roads. So what you see out your window and on top of your car may not be the exact same situation that your nanny is facing. Our roads haven't been cleared yet, but they were cleared hours ago in our sitter's neighborhood.

This post comes up with every snowstorm. I'm fairly sure this is just trollbait. Possibly with added mb trollbait

Where I am, a major road has been closed, 4 car pile up at bottom of tiny hill at end of my street. My life is more important to me than you or your kids.

Dear Boss,

Don't write in my contract that I follow all school closings if you're going to try to make me come in if schools are delay and/or closed. You don't get to decide when I get to have the day off if my contract clearly states that I follow all school closings. I am glad that you think that you're the weatherman and can decide if the snow isn't that bad, and I am really glad that you now can tell how clear the roads are - those are all great qualities to have but that does not mean that you get to decide upon my snow days as you see fit.

AND a bonus, you're not driving to work today because it's bad out but yet you think that I should just so you can be kid free? Be mad at me all you want but I am following the contract that YOU wrote for me.
