I would never jump to the conclusion that she is offering to loan you money. That is not something you hint about. No. She's offering to give you a ride at most.

My guess is she wants to help you find a way to get to and from work on mon and tue. Maybe you can deal with your car on Wednesday since you have that day off.

I would assume she meant like a ride to work or back, not financial help. But I would definitely use her mechanic that way she trusts the diagnosis, and maybe they will give you a better deal cuz they know the MB. And who knows, maybe she will pitch in financially.

I agree with this.

It is a bad idea to accept or request loans from your employer. You should do so only as an absolute last resort.

My Employers helped me with a huge car loan. My car broke down and that's how I got their kids around. I didn't ask. They offered. I paid them back very quickly.

I know a number of MB's who have extended loans to their nannies. One even bought the nanny a good used car, and let the nanny pay her back. It worked out fine. Of course you need to trust the nanny. But if you don't, why would you leave your child with her?

I would not assume your MB means a financial loan to fix your car, OP. Maybe she means that, it's tough for us to tell since we don't know your MB. But that would be an unusual thing for an MB to offer. She is more likely offering to help you find alternate transportation to work. She may be willing to Uber you to work, or help you pay for a rental car, but keep your expectations low.

It's just something nice people say, it would be extremely awkward if you tried to get something out of it....

I have said that toy nanny. I've meant help with getting a ride to work. Like Uber while your car is in the shop. Not a financial loan.

Long story short ------> My car suddenly broke down on me and now it doesn't run at all. It's virtually useless at this point and I have no transportation.

I live in Southern CA so I cannot depend on public transportation at all.

Anyway, my mechanic's shop won't open until early Monday morning and I have no idea what the problem is. It could be a small mechanical issue ( ) or it could be something major ( ). I don't know a thing about cars, but my car is a '99 and is old so while I am hoping for the best, I also am expecting the worst.

I texted my boss this evening and told her my dilemma and told her I won't be able to come in at least Mon and Tue of next week. (Thankfully I already have Wed/Thu/Fri already off for the holiday week.)

She knows as a nanny I do not make very much and I told her that I was keeping my fingers crossed that it was something minor, but that my car wasn't even functioning so I was in limbo.

She told me she was sorry and to keep her abreast of any new developments. Then she ended her text with these exact words:

If you need any help at all, please do not hesitate to ask. Then she recommended her family mechanic and wished me luck.

I did some thinking and was wondering what type of help she was offering.

Meaning, do you think she would consider loaning me some money to pay for repairing my car if I would pay her back if it turns out to be a major repair? Or maybe she meant just help with transportation?
