I'm thinking about it. All my past jobs were so kind to me. These guys have been great in emergencies, I'll say that- very accommodating and caring. I know they love me. There's just a weird disconnect with lifestyle. I don't think they have ever struggled financially. They've certainly worked hard but because of the family structure, they always had help. There's no way I'd let them know that I've been going to the food bank or that I'm working 3 other jobs to stay afloat.

Some deserving nannies get nice bonuses from their thoughtful bosses. Sometimes you need to move on to find the right position.

+1. Not $1000, but she's only been with us 2.5 months. It was a substantial bonus. Now I'm wondering if she even likes this job.

Nannies and bonuses are a lot like silly girls and their boyfriends on Valentines day. The measure of your relationship shouldn't be a gift grab on one day.

If they treat you poorly all year but give you $1000 cash and an iPod on Christmas would that mean you have great employers or that they appreciate you?

OP, I'm the nanny who asked if I was being greedy, and I feel for you.

I didn't get a bonus and I feel very under-appreciated as well. A bonus is standard in many industries and it is a bit insulting when you are in one of those positions that traditionally is given a week's salary as a yearly bonus and you do not receive one.

I am not going to look for another position right now (I do love my charge and have established such a good routine with him) but it does make me think so much less of his parents. I doubt I will make myself available for extra hours or evenings nor will I do anything outside of my job for them again.

I feel your pain OP. I got the Groupon and felt the same exact way, I felt like my family didn't truly respect me or appreciate me the way I thought they did.

Even now I am conflicted about it.

What a cheesy and tacky present. I cannot even look at it because I still feel offended by it.

And it's not like I expected a Tiffany diamond necklace.

I am by no means materialistic. Ask my friends.

But I would have liked a gift with at least a little bit of thought put into it.

I would give them a small rate increase for New Year's.

I am a nanny and would have been disapointed as well.
Not by the lack of a bonus but because they didn't put any effort in the gift they gave.

Are you happy for everything else about this family ?
Are they treating you well all year ? Are the kids nice etc ?
I wouldn't quit for a bonus if everything else is ok (including pay).

As you know being a nanny is all about the cash and gifts at Christmas.

Last year I received a scarf, been working with them about
6months then. So, I told myself maybe because I did not reach the 1yr to get a bonus.
Well, behold this year it's a full year and walked out of my employers house with a bag of chocolate! I almost cried in my car ;(( Yes, I am a bit disappointed I am not hypocrite to say I'm ok. They didn't even bother to give time to think of what they could give me
grandma just got that chocolate from the store few hours before they hand it to me.

I am now, certain that my work and love with their kids is not appreciated or maybe
I am not that deserving of bonus.

I am a nanny for 16years (with only 3 employers, to show good relationship) and only this recent
2 years with this family I never recieve any.

Should I start to look for a new job? I dont want to give them the impression that I am greedy.
Any opinion, kind or harsh welcome )
