SD nanny makes almost $41,000/yr for 34 hours a week.
OC nanny makes, at most, before taxes, $33,300/yr. We'll add the $1000 to that.
SD nanny makes $7000 a year more, for almost one day less work each week, and yet may quit over this bonus.
This is not a rare sentiment on this board. As a MB, the message I keep getting from nannies here is to offer a low starting salary, because nannies value raises and bonuses more than earning more money altogether.

Weekly salary - 18-23 hours at $12/hour
Bonus - $0
Gifts - Groupon computer print out for a haircolor and haircut at Mom Boss's hair salon for $55/both. (She got a deal for $30 as listed on the promotional voucher)
Comments - One one hand I am appreciative that they saw this deal and thought of me and decided to share it with me. It was a nice thought and they didn't HAVE to do it. They could have not given me a darn thing. On the other hand, I find it tacky to receive a Groupon as a gift in a Christmas card, I would have preferred to have a "no strings attached" gift card or gift certificate instead. The Groupon not only has the (discounted!) price clearly listed on it, it also has only 5 mos. on it before it expires which I find tacky.

Gifts - A lovely framed photograph of the children.
Comments - I love the photograph, love my charges, and generally love my job. But I am feeling very unappreciated by my employers. They are generally thoughtless people but I know how happy they are with me so I expected a bonus. As much as I HATE to think about it - I may begin looking for another position in January. It

You are being well-paid but it's not fun working for thoughtless people.
