It's nice to give gifts but you don't have to.
You can write a card and add a homemade coupon for a free evening of babysitting for instance.

If you do this, be sure to do an hourly cap for the "free" part of it. I made the mistake of just saying "free evening" and my MB tried to schedule a freakin overnight.

So? How stuck up can you be! Its a gift and it's not costing you a thing. Just sleep there for G**s sake!

Stuck up? It is costing me something. Time. Time away from my own family and home. Time which is usually valued at $20/hour. It was a gift and she tried to take advantage. You think it is appropriate to accept a gift from your employee valued at a couple hundred dollars? Any other time I've sat for her, she books around 3 hours. Now she has a free sitting coupon and she wants 12, in addition to the 10 hour day I already worked. I hope you're a troll, and not someone who honestly can't see who is wrong here.

Actually, you're the troll since we all know that your MB didn't do that. You're making it up.

I hope our nanny doesn't. We don't need anything, and don't like clutter. We don't need mugs or chocolates or christmas ornaments or pics of the kids or scented candles, etc. A card with a sentiment is fine, and verbal warm wishes are also fine. We'll give a bonus regardless.

I buy gifts for the children, never the parents.

I enjoy getting my charges and bosses gifts alike.

For the first Christmas, I got my bosses engraved mugs from Things Remembered.

For the second, I got them a $100 gift card to a nice Italian restaurant since they enjoy that kind of food, a $25 movie gift card to a unique theater, and a homemade childcare voucher for up to 6 hours of free babysitting to be used on an afternoon or evening, any day of the week. They never used the voucher though.

This year I got MB vintage wine glasses and DB an iPhone case of his favorite sports team.

My bosses always appreciate them, and I just love giving gifts to people, especially when the gifts are things that they need or things that they're interested in.

I also do the occasional baking. Usually muffins with their favorite treat added (chocolate for MB and blueberries for DB) or cookies. So if you'd like to get something for your bosses at this point in time, I'd suggest going the baking route and maybe wrapping the treats in a nice gift box.

Enjoy the holidays everyone!!

And let them deal with the stomach upset aftermath!

I tried cooking chicken for the first time for my charge (having never cooked chicken outside of a toaster over or microwave) and he was sick for days. Thank god I didn't eat any!

You can just give them a nice card or something if you want, but no need for gifts.

Merry Christmas!

Why do you prefer she didn't ?

I always give gifts to both kids and their parents.

This year I bought way too much. It was so much fun shopping for them (I've been with them since January), I didn't realize how much I actually bought. I think I might have a slight "online shopping" problem
I gave my MB one of her gifts already and she loves it
I have a few more for her, but she has to wait until Xmas Eve
I know what she likes, so it's easy to shop for her. I know she appreciates everything she gets from me.

If you're not sure what to get, just bake some cookies or some holiday treats.

Happy Holidays!!!

MB here. Our nanny gives us gifts and I would so prefer she didn't.

MB here. DC' nanny doesn't give us gifts and does something small for the kids. Perfectly happy with the situation.

Am I the only one who doesn't intend to get MB/DB a Christmas gift? I have gotten my charge several gifts but was of the understanding that employees do not get their employers gifts at Christmas. If I am wrong, please tell me (fast!)
