Given what they pay you and your fluctuating weekly hours, I'm guessing they don't have much money. It's a crappy gift, and would have been better to give you a $25 gift card, but they probably feel like they got you something more expensive at a price they could afford. It's like having elderly parents on a budget. All you can do is smile and say thank you.

They're cheap, I would have been pissed as well.

Yes, you posted this in off topic. You got a gift. They thought of you and tried to do something nice. If you won't use it, give it to someone who will. Send a thank you card and think nothing more of it. We don't work to get the bonus.

OP do you even want to color your hair? did you ever made a comment like "I need to do something about my hair" or something like that that made her think about hair?

If you use this voucher, word of advice, be prepared to spend extra $$$ there. They will tell you since you hair is "long" it needs more chemical so they charge extra... then tip...
another option is call the salon and ask if you can put the $25 towards a different service. like nails or a massage (if they offer this.

This is a tacky gift, yes, but there is nothing to do about it rather than 'wow so kind thank you happy christmas' and be on your merry way.

I have been working for my current family since May of last year, so about a year and a half so far.

I am strictly part-time and have between 18-23 hours per week.

I care for a currently just turned two year old little boy who has special health heart-related needs that I cannot go into on here because his condition is extremely rare and it would be too confidential for me to disclose too many details of his illness.

However due to his illness, he has certain behavior issues that take a higher level of patience than would be required of a typical child of his age range so at times the job can be quite challenging. Also due to the no.# of medications he takes on a daily basis, there are certain side effects as well that can affect his behavior.

Regardless, I love my job, I love this little guy and the parents are very kind to me and have always treated me with the utmost respect and fairness overall.

Anyway, so yesterday (Friday), as I was handed my weekly paycheck, the parents gave me a Christmas card which had my present inside. I thanked them for it at the time, but when I came home and started to think more about it, I feel kinda weird about it.

It's a Groupon-type voucher promotional thing they printed off the internet.

I am not clear on these types of things, but from what I can tell, it's an offer for a cut and color at a local beauty salon which would normally cost $55.00, but with this voucher and using this promotional code, they got it for only $25.00. How do I know?? Because it says it all right on the paper.

So basically they found a good deal online for a cut/color and decided to give it to me as my Xmas present. One one hand it is the mere thought that counts and I should be thankful that they were so thoughtful to share this deal with me and to even extend this gift to me, I mean...As a part-time nanny, they didn't have to get me anything, right??!

Yet on the other hand, it feels tacky to me.
I would prefer to have just received a typical gift card or a gift voucher instead of this black and white printout off their computer, showing me they got a deal from Groupon, exactly how much money they paid and thus saved and that I have five months to use it or it is no good.

What do you all think?

Should I just suck it up and be grateful I received this and be happy with the thought that went into it? Am I just being shallow here??
