I'm not sure what you are asking op.
But if I went home sick I would count that towards. My paid sick time. Doesn't matter to me how I got the germs.

If I did not have sick time I would use my personal \ vacation time.

If I had used all my own paid leave I would expect to be docked.

Ii wouldn't announce this, but I would discuss it with any new employers. it's an interesting concept. It would need to be written like "Nanny will use a sick day if she cannot come to work due to illness or a doctor's appointment. if she does not have any sick days to use, she must use a vacation day or take the day unpaid if she doesn't have vacation days left. The only exception is when our child was ill and was in your care for one or more days (ill is defined by having one or all of these symptoms: vomiting, diarrhea, fever over 100, conjunctivitis).

So at renewal this would be a good to add, or with new contracts. Never occurred to me to do, but I'd say it would be a good idea.

If my boss gets me sick can I complain I should not be punished for it because he's a dummy?

If a teacher get sick from her students should she not have to take sick days?

Anyways nannying isn't a real job like at a company. If you want to take off a day for your vacation just take it off, no one can force you into anything.

I guess you wouldn't mind if your nanny doesn't come in tomorrow, since "nannying isn't a real job."
If I come into your home and care for your vomiting, fevered child so you can go to work and I get sick...you damn well should pay me for the day WITHOUT it counting toward my sick time. Good luck pulling that shit with a daycare center or in-home daycare center. Without nannies and sitters, you'd miss work.

OP here - donyounsuggest that I let MB know that from here on out, if I get sick caring for her child, I expect to be able to take the day off without it counting against my sick days?

I disagree with this. Yes perhaps getting sick is part of the job, but if I got docked for falling ill after caring for your sick family, next time I'd just take the docking up front without having to get sick, ie. I would not waste my time, health, and money caring for you and your kid. If I'm going to have to take unpaid time either way, I might as well be healthy enough to enjoy the day!

OP here, and yes, this. If I am going to lose my vacation days because I caught the stomach bug from your kid, I'd rather skip caring for your sick child and just take a day unpaid and avoid getting sick myself.

Yup this.
I'm sure if when she is feeling better she will realize she's in the wrong.

If not remind her of your agreement.

Sometimes adults lash out and act like grumpy kids when things don't go their way.
Hope you feel better soon.

I cared for my sick nanny child all day Tuesday. Mom got sick that night, and dad the following night. I went into work yesterday morning not feeling great, and felt so sick after about an hour that I had to leave. I know my MB was stressed from being sick and trying to work from home and then me having to leave, but as I was on my way out the door she said she might have to dock a day of my vacation. I don't understand because 1) I still have sick days left and 2) the only reason I had to leave was because I cleaned up her kid's puke all day. I don't think I should be punished for having to leave due to something their child passed to me in the first place. Should I address the issue now or wait and see if she actually docks me a vacation day?
