Filing for unemployment significantly increases the unemployment tax that you NF will pay. You might jeopardize your relationship. You have plenty of time to find another job.

OP, in your situation I wouldn't bother with unemployment.

While technically you could qualify it's not worth the hassle for 13 weeks.


Instead I would plan a head accordingly.

Set some of your pay aside now I'm sure you could save the $2000 you are losing over a 6 month period.

There is also plenty of time to look for a summer position.

How can you qualify for unemployment if you have a job? That doesn't make any sense unless you are being paid illegally.

Get another job and save unemployment for people who really need it.

Instead of filing unemployment I would try to find a part time position for over the summer. Some people just need someone to watch school-aged children for a few days a week when they aren't at camps.

Don't agree to a job that won't provide enough hours for you, or pick up another job with additional hours. Don't file unemployment, that's ridiculous. You're not unemployed and are completely capable of picking up additional work.

Instead of find a real job that earns your enough to support yourself you are planning, 6 months ahead no less, to go on welfare. You are pitiful.

I'm currently negotiating my work agreement with a new NF and I will be working 3 11 hour days and in the months of June, July, and August, I will be cut down to 2 11 hour days due to the grandparents being snowbirds and wanting to provide childcare. The NF will guarantee 22 hours in the summer but will not pay for the additional day I'm not needed. I've agreed to this, but was looking into filing for unemployment for the lost income for those 3 months. I will lose $170/week for about 13 weeks. It seems from my research that I would likely qualify for unemployment to supplement my income each summer. Would this effect the family? I'm planning to discuss with them once I confim whether I would qualify and how it would effect them. Does anyone know where I could call/look to find out for sure?
