Have you asked your nanny if she knows anyone? I would only refer other nannies who I felt comfortable personally pledging for so that mayt be the case with your nanny as well.

We found her through care.com 3 years ago and I'm using care and sitter city to try and find someone to fill in while she is out. I knew it might be hard since it's a short term gig (mid/late November through early January). But it is really proving more difficult than I originally thought. And now I fear I'll find someone who is interested, but then will leave if they get an offer for a long-term gig.

So, we're thinking of turning to a nanny placement service. I was hoping to avoid having to pay a service, since we'll continue to pay our nanny while on maternity leave and will have to pay the temporary nanny. But time is running out for us.

Any recommendations for local placement service - ideally from actual experience working with them?

That is your own fault for paying a woman for 3 months for not actually doing any work. Don't complain here.

It's more like 6-8 weeks moron. Do the math.

Thanks for such constructive input. Nowhere in there is a complaint. A reason for trying to source ourselves instead of using a service =/= complaining.

I have had great success with MetroParentRelief. I used them for a few sick days, but also for a longer (6 week) fill in period when our nanny was out of the country.

You'll pay more than if you find someone elsewhere, but you also get the peace of mind of background checks having been done, etc...
