If you are officially employing someone. People are free to choose to exchange work for any type of compensation, even non-monetary. If I want to pay my friends in pizza to help me move for 3 hours we can do that. If I want to pay the neighbor kid $5 to mow the grass and it takes him an hour, we can do that. If I want to pay a nanny $100 to watch my kid for 24 hours, we can do that. So if PP wants to pay $5 an hour and the nanny accepts it then they can do that. Now, of course, it probably wouldn't be a good idea to pay sub-minimum wage on the books, but I'm sure that's not the case.

I pay someone simiar live out 6hrs a day. She does basic cleaning (like bed making and vacuuming and laundry) we have actual house cleaners for toilets and heavy cleaning. She does all our grocery shopping, costco runs and other errands. She does basic meal prep and makes kids lunches. She gets the kids off the bus and started on HW. She takes them to practice as needed and ill meet here there and let her go. She basically keeps the house running.

I pay $15/h and I'm in Ashburn.

I do not think it reasonable to expect the same person to do heavy cleaning in your home.

Actually, depending on the hours and the breakdown of household:child related duties, as well as the size of the home and the amount of work to be done, $15/hour for a LI working 40 hours/week might be OK.

OP, the fewer hours you need, the higher the hourly rate needs to be. Additionally, the heavier the housekeeping duties, the higher the rate needs to be.

For $15/hour 40 hours/week, with duties split 60% cleaning 40% childcare, I think the following duties list is reasonable:

Clean all rooms in home 1x per week. Vacuum, dust, wipe counters, clean toilets, mop, etc. - Standard Housekeeping, no pulling out the frig, cleaning windows, etc. Loading/running/unloading dishwasher, children's laundry with their help, assist with household linens and adult laundry, grocery shop, run errands. After school childcare, homework help, dinner for kids.

When kids are not in school, tasks need to be prioritized differently if the employee is in charge of kids all day long.

You are basically looking for someone to be the SAHM.

She may not get useful info here (I don't know OP - sorry) but she's not misrepresenting her situation at all.

Op's need is not primarily childcare. It is primarily housekeeping.

it may surprised you but there are families that hire live in housekeepers and pay them well, in addition to room and board. they choose live in because they can afford it and they want somebody who takes care of the house full time (e.g. cleaning dishes after every meal )

Wow. This seems rather presumptuous of you. We actually pay very well and with full benefits, travel stipends, two weeks paid vacation, etc.

And who said anything about intense? We have two children that are in school all day so what do we need childcare during the day for?

If we live in Gaithersburg and have two children (ages 5 and almost 11) and are looking for a live-in housekeeper/nanny.

I'm not sure what we want to advertise for and what a fair weekly rate (and related benefits) would be?

We are looking for someone to clean our home, and perhaps pick up children after school and feed them (we would do all morning and evening routine things).

We really need someone to keep the house moving and clean more than anything.

SO...what should I advertise for and what is the going rate for a live-in?
