Because if she likes the job she will do what is required.

I would go out of my way to get a background check to work with a family I really liked, even if it is an annoyance.

I had pretty good luck with Nanny Verify. The national criminal background check was completed within a few minutes. The county criminal checks took a few days. Was totally worth it, but I'm pretty risk-averse.

If you are in md and I think other states have it too you can go on the court case search and check for free there

Don't cut corners because you are in a rush for care.
I know of nannies that have friends pose as references and lie for them.

I've never had a background check run on me. Never. It's fine OP. The only thing a background check would show is if she's been convicted of a crime. It would not tell you if she's a sociopath. Trust your gut, it's there for a reason.

She wouldn't have gotten into nursing school without a background check OP, and were anything significant to have happened in the 2 years since it was run, she would not STILL be in school. I would let it slide this time.

I always do a background check. If you can't get it done this weekend, call her first few days a trial (paid, of course) and say the final offer will be contingent on a clean background check.

When it comes to your child, you should never cut corners OP.

I would find some website or software and run a background check on her.

Going to good schools just means they're good at school. It doesn't mean they're not a psychopath. Can't your husband create an account and use a different credit card to run the background check and then cancel his account? I background check no matter where they went to school or what their references say.

I am a high paid nanny for wealthy DC families and actually have never had a BG check run on me by a family. I tell them I have copies for them but they also haven't asked to see them. So I wouldn't worry. It's not uncommon.

I am hiring a 1 day a week nanny/sitter and the person I am hiring lives about a mile down the road (I don't know her family). She graduated from a good high school and is at a good college in 2nd year of nursing school. Excellent references all checked out. She will be watching my 4 year old. At least 1/2 of the time husband will be working from home. Problem is I always use background check on care.com but there is a problem with my account that I haven't been able to fix regarding the credit card and I can't get ahold of anyone to fix this so I haven't been able to run a background check. I was planning on her starting this week and my husband and I talked about it and we feel okay skipping the background check but was wondering what others think about this. Do you always run background checks?
