I agree with the rate + driving. I wouldn't pay more than $18 for someone who can't drive, because, as you said, it is going to become an issue soon enough.

If you are able/willing to pay $20/hr or up you will certainly find many qualified candidates, on the books. For $22-25 you will have your choice of tons of highly qualified, professional, experienced, candidates.

Your nanny (IMO) is making a poor decision in wanting to be paid illegally. And for the rate you are willing to pay you should absolutely be able to get someone who can drive your kids.

For a nanny with experience, $20-$25. We paid $18 on the books, but our nanny had very little experience.

Why would you have to switch to pay legally? Is she not legal to work in the US?

currently 17/hour off the books, and she works 40 hours a week. She is great with the kids, but does not drive. I feel that this may become more of an issue the older they get, since they will have more out-of-house acctivities as they grow. When the 3rd baby arrives though, we might have to go down to 32 hours

I was curious to know how much we should pay our nanny who is currently taking care of our two toddlers, and soon we will also have a newborn in the family. What is a reasonable rate for NW DC for 3 kids? She does not drive, and the pay if off the books. Please advise!
