Our accountant told me I should pay the day after the pay period, so if the pay covers up to the end of the day on Friday, we should pay our nanny on Saturday. We do this via internet banking, though actually I often pay her on the Friday when I'm at my desk, it is is easier to get done then.
If your employers pay be cheque, they should be able to give you a cheque on Thursday that is dated for Friday. You should suggest that. If they can't do that. maybe you can suggest you be paid in cash on your next day of work.
I understand about the cheque clearing - it won't clear if you don't have a certain balance in your account, so that you have sufficient funds in case the cheque bounces.
I have tried to ask for a post-dated check and she refuses. There isn't much I can do if she won't pay me. I don't take cash and only pay by the books. That's highly illegal to be paid under the table.
