This is wholly an effect of helicopter parenting. I had a professor tell our class that we are adults and are responsible for our own education and that Legally she cannot discuss our schooling with our parents. It was sad that she had to say it but, apparently it's become a serious problem in higher education.

Where are you getting hatred? I got annoyance (justified) and being quite surprised by moms calling on behalf if their kids (also justified) no hatred. Are you one of the bitter nannies who attacks every MB?

Stop with the bitter nanny BS. Disagreeing with your viewpoint does not make her a bitter nanny.

I've never heard of such a thing.

It's a valid question. Professionals don't do that. When you don't offer a professional wage, you experience things like having parents call you.

I wish that were true. I've had so many moms of college students call me to arrange for their kid to shadow me at my job. Most back off once I tell them their kid can either call me or email me, but I have had some who were quite insistent that they do the arranging.

+1. This phenomenon is definitely not restricted to low-paying jobs.

I had it happen and it was strange. I wasn't lowballing with a salary either.

Maybe she is having young women apply, but you make yourself sound like an idiot by assuming she's offering a low rate.

I suggested that that could be a reason.

Someone in the off-topic forum is saying she's had the mothers of multiple nanny candidates contact her.
