Not being paid on time is a valid reason for quitting and applying for unemployment.

this post is outrageous (and I am not a nanny, but a working mother of two kids). these people hired a nanny and need to pay her as scheduled. "they can't pay you if they do not have the money": are you kidding me? these people are going on vacation to a resort in Europe, and that cost $$$$ . they should pay the nanny first, and then go on vacation if they have money left, not the other way around. try spending your money on vacations and dining out and then tell your mortgage company that you will be paying your mortgage late because you do not have the money and you will see what happens. any resposible person pays first his/her financial obligations, and then goes on vacation. we are not talking a sudden loss of job, government shutdown and so on, just a vacation. OP should look for a new job ASAP, and she certainly needs to ask for her money at the time it is due, how her employer pays for her and the vacation is the employer' s problem.

get your paycheck then leave ASAP. I would also be wary of when you tell them you are leaving because it sounds entirely possible they will cheat you out of your last paycheck so make sure to factor that into your budget that month

This PP is completely unreasonable. It doesn't matter how much money you have or don't have in savings -- that is YOUR paycheck, YOU earned it. I can almost guarantee their companies have never asked to give them their paycheck late. Whether you want to spend it on bills, shopping, saving, whatever -- it's YOUR money. Absolutely not okay for them to do this.

Regardless of how you feel about this job, I would consider quitting if she doesn't pay you on time. If they do it once they are bound to do it again. Not paying somebody on time is a huge sign of disrespect. I would be (and am) appalled.

Either she pays you on time, or you find another job. Make it as clear as humanly possible that paying you late is NOT ok.

"You will need to pay me on time. Anything else is unacceptable." End of discussion. Are you willing to quit over this? If you are, then tell her that. "If you can't pay me on time then I will have to give you my notice." Have it ready and hand it to her.

If you aren't okay with quitting immediately then spend that week looking and keep looking until you find something else.

Your MB HAS the money to pay you, she just wants to use it for her vacation like you stated OP. What a loser!

So I would be crystal clear to her. Either she pay you on the 17th per your contract, or she comes back from her European vacation and find herself w/no childcare due to her own fault.

Because she is being selfish and putting her own needs way ahead of yours. To put your bills on the back burner just so she can climb the Eiffel Tower is just self-serving.

I would definitely use that whole week off looking for a new family to work for OP.

MB here. This is inexcusable - totally not ok. As the other poster said - first you pay your bills, then you play with whatever money is left over.

I think your initial reaction was absolutely perfect OP. I would just repeat that again tomorrow and then absolutely spend the week they're away looking for a new job.

I think this is hugely disrespectful, thoughtless, rude, unprofessional and completely out of line. They deserve to lose you.

I don't care if they want to fire me. I'm a damn good nanny and have done nothing wrong. They have the money to pay me but would rather spend it on vacation. That's not my issue. I deserve to be paid accordingly. MB wouldn't be too pleased of her employer did the same. It's highly unprofessional.

FYI - I do have savings but I pay my school tuition car payments, health insurance, rent, utilities, and I don't have the luxury of saving too much.

That makes no sense. That is what savings is for. They should be paying you for the week you are gone if it is a full-time job/regular hours. Look for a new job while they are away.

MB here. That's bullshit. FIRST I fulfill my financial obligations. THEN I play with money left over.

Spend the week they're away looking for a new job.

MB and DB are taking a sort of unexpected trip to Europe because they decided they needed to go with a group of couples that are going to a resort. My charge is staying behind at his grandparents. Today MB goes " Even though pay day is next week, can we pay you on the 24th. We want to make sure we have spending $". I told her " I'm sorry but I can't do that. I have bills that need to paid by X date". She got upset but didnt speak of it. As I was leaving she said " we will try and get you your paycheck on 17th but may need to delay until 24th". I didn't want to miss my bus so I told her I will speak to her tomorrow but I need my check as promised in contract. I'm already not getting paid for the week they are gone so I'm losing that weeks pay. I shouldn't bot be compensated as agreed upon just because money may be tight or for whatever reason. I can't afford to not be paid and I don't know how to tell MB its not happening. They have never done this is my 10 months with them. I feel ira unprofessional. WWYD? Is this not a big deal and I'm overreacting.
