I am on the side of equal opportunity. Just be thoughtful about the developmental stages your daughter will be going through over the term you hope to employ him. If he wants the job he should be prepared to deal with age appropriate girl stuff. That obviously includes the physical maturation issues but also the everyday things that men may not expect.

I'm male and I've been nannying for over 10 years. I'm sure there can be benefits for your family. Like anyone, each person is different and it depends on what you need. I wouldn't count a male nanny out of the game without meeting them.

OP here. My younger child needs to be picked up from school so we need a driver and older child has some special needs, so best to have an adult around. Thanks to all who provided feedback. I think I'd give a manny a shot.

Not the op but they may need to be driven to various after school activities.

Why does your 12 yr old need a babysitter? I was babysitting other people's kids at that age. Pay him to babysit your dd. Have rules they have to follow and put him in charge. Give it a try for a few weeks and see how it goes. He should be able to do homework on his own, and help with simple dinner tasks... Turning on the oven, turning off the crock pot etc.

We have 2 dd's and a manny (not gay). we just hired him because he seemed like the best mix of everything we wanted in a childcare giver.

BTW, 14:33 what you said is offensive. A straight female nanny can talk baseball cards and play HORSE, just like a straight manny can play dress up.

Why not a gay male nanny! You get the best of both stereotypes, able to play ball and dress up

But, on the off chance I'm mistaken, here's my two cents: take each individual as an individual. Men have a lot to offer.

Also, think about the exact specifics of the job you need done: any level of housekeeping, schoolwork support, driving, meal prep, etc... Be very specific about the job and then assess qualifications and interest against those specifics.

Well, why not? Your 12yo DS will probably love having a male nanny and there's no reason for your daughter not to love it, too.

Hi. Our wonderful after school nanny will leave us soon for a full time position. As I start the process for finding someone new, I am wondering about perspectives on a male nanny. I have a 12 year old boy and an 8 year old girl. It seems a manny could benefit my son yet I wonder about my daughter. I've never had nor considered a guy before to take care of my kids, and of course there are scary stories "out there," yet I don't want to just dismiss an option that might be a good thing. Thoughts? Thank you.
